travels

wes and i took a little trip to pacific grove for memorial weekend.  we liked it so much two years ago when we traveled there for our anni we thought we'd do it again.  this time it was more sunny and it more than reminded us why we like it so much.  pebble beach was so blue it's nuts.  we rode our bikes along it before we set off for home

we went to a mexican restaurant where i ordered sangria and realized i had forgotten my wallet with my id and of course the waiter couldn't let me.  so wes ordered one and the whole time we were sneaking around - i drinking "his"sangria and he "my" diet coke.  i'm sure the waiter was onto our shenanigans.

this wedding dress was on sale at a local thrift store.  i loved the presentation.

unfortunately we were lagging on the picture taking, but it was so nice just to take everything in.  i get so caught up with trying to capture everything in an image - it was quite the exercise.

in other exciting news - wes and i are officially planning our little trip to europe in october! we'll be flying in to france and that's as far as we have planned.  all we know is we're meeting our friends mike and alla and we'll be crawling through a couple countries for fifteen days.  we're all very open and flexible and will take it one thing at a time.  it's just been one of those things on my big to-do, ya know.  we traveled through some countries while emigrating from russia but that was so long ago.

anyway - that's it for now loves.  i'll try to be more frequent with the posting :)

hey homeslice(s)

hope all is well :)

i'm sure it's pretty common but i have a short satisfaction span with my furniture arrangements.  since last post i bought another lamp (the following sunday actually) at another antique fair.  this sista cannot pass up a good deal! or a lamp! the antique lamp from alameda was a bit spotlighty for a living room  :)

we moved it to our room and made some space for this mid-century floor lamp which i scored for a freaking $50.

i couldn't believe the guy let me.  i was trying really hard to hand him the money without my hands shaking out of fear that he'll change his mind.  i think it's cuz i was with my cute friend.

anywho, check out my recent trip to ohio.  i went to visit family and finally met my niece again, now that she recognizes and remembers things (last visited her when she was but only two months).  and the timing was so perfect because my sister in law was in town as well from florida with my nephew liev.  i got to meet him for the first time!

greetings! welcome to my new blog post :)

i got my hair mildly lightened like i said i would. ms erin o'hagain did it for me at work and i'm loving the change.  it kind of does different things in different lighting - which makes it very versatile.  we might tamper with it more, but i'm cool with where it's at for now :)

speaking of hair, i used a recent day off as an opportunity to book myself solid with hair appointments to test the waters on my timing.  by booking myself solid, i mean four appointments, hehe. funny how time flies when you're doing highlights or ombre.  and how delicious a think thin bar is while running out to put more quarters in the parking meter. regardless of how hectic, i loved it.  i'm learning so much being surrounded by seasoned stylists.

anyway - all that to say, i'm working on figuring out a good balance of managing parts of my life that bring me joy: time to myself - to read or what not, hair, projects at home, my etsy shop, my blog, friends, family.  i don't think i'll ever have it down, ya know.  but i ain't complaining.  first world problems!! lol (i can't get enough of that expression.  my buddy nate brought it up when we were driving to the alameda antique fair and i was complaining about how unhappy i was with my outfit, and they were complaining about pandora making the wrong song selections!)

speaking of friends, we recently had our buddies over for dinner at our place.  i put together what i called a quinoa bar with all sorts of fixings in case peeps got choosey (like my husband who doesn't particularly care much for vegetables, and everyone else who are obsessed with them :).  i just sauteed most of the veggies separately and included separate bowls of tofu and chicken.  turned out to be a hit. :)

here's the bar after being picked apart :)

speaking of the alameda antique fair, i tagged along with liska and nate on sunday to see what kind of treasures we can find.  i had my mind set on finding some new lighting for our home.  when we first moved (four years ago) we somehow got an ugly 'temporary' solution of a lamp that stuck around! anywho i scored an antique dentist lamp for super cheap!

hollerrrr

hey! i put up some new things on my shop - there were rumors that i was going under, but nope.  still here! jk.  oh btw i have an etsy shop. here's a sample of what's in store :)

go to the link to see more will ya.

anywho - work has been keeping us busy surprisingly for jan/feb - people still want to get their hair done even though it's not the holidays! who knew, lol.  but as always i'm keeping my eyes open for inspiration - cuts, color, etc. - for myself and other victims people.  here's one for me - i'm planning on going lighter unless i change my mind by the time i make the appt :)
i got this pic on pinterest :)
maybe something a tad darker

oh and how about that superbowl! hehe jk.  in all reality, i am football retarded (i know not pc! - but you know in the olden days they said "retarded" for late, so) - very slow at understanding what is going on. friends have tried explaining it to me.  maybe it's an immigrant thing or an a-d-d thing (self-diagnosed).  (all the immigrants and a-d-d people, shush!)

anyway - thank you! till next post :)

ma man

since he was away on business this last wednesday, he spent his birthday by his lonesome (and very food poisoned, poor guy).  so this saturday - last minute as it was - some of our buddies came to celebrate and i'm pretty sure that made up for it :)  i made some pizza's with trader joe's pizza dough (first time making pizza in a looong time) and it worked out fine.

i finally hung my ombre curtains - they were supposed to be black going into grey and white when i dyed them, but somehow purple was their fate so i kept them stowed away for a while.

and of course, i not only almost dropped the cake on the birthday boy, but also accidentally blew out his candles.  of course.
IMG_0383

i don't know what's worse, dropping a cake on the birthday subject or BLOWING OUT THEIR CANDLES! i mean who does that! it's like the universal crime.

anywho - i've also been spending some extra time with friends this last week.  i think i want to explore some sacramento happy hours.  la ray and i had zocalo last monday - really good! their appetizers are delish and they serve $5 margaritas (their marg's are legit), $4 sangrias, and $3 wine. what other local happy hours are good do ya think?

ok - thanks! bye!

sf

we took a little trip to the bay yesterday.  i love that i can get my dose of ocean and and marine plant life in no more than an hour and a half time! one of our(my) favorite places to go is the park and hiking trails in the sutro area.  when my family first moved to america, we lived across the street from the little park up on the cliff.  now our trips to that part of sf bring me such nostalgia it almost hurts.  that's why i guess i'll always have a soft spot for san francisco (when we have a son - i'll name him francisco - francisca if girl- lol kidding)

one day i'll scan some old photos from our family walks through the park (yes all seven of us - seven before anton) and show you.  one of the most random memories i have is couples making out on blankets like...everywhere!  i think one time i approached a couple just to see what happens if they saw me standing there and nothing happened.  they were making out when i came out to play after school and still there on my way home for dinner.  that is kind of amazing!

enyvey - we spent some time up on lands end trails, did some lunch at the stinking rose (i've always been curious about that place) - went for some ice cream, quick grab o' coffee and did one last stop at alamo square to see the "full house" house where wes gave me a good rundown of all the characters and what they were known for.

okay i'll get back to muh day off.  i'm almost done with the garden of beasts.  if i can get my hands on the last hunger games book, i'll read that next or the stolen life by jaycee dugard.  my mommy in law read it in like two days i think.  bam.
